Mercer Downs Essex

Newark, NJ - The Lady Wolverines fell to Region 19 rivals Mercer County Community College by the score of 79-65, Saturday afternoon in the Cleo Hill Gymnasium. Jakira Coar led the Wolverines with 20 points and 5 assists, while Basirat Animashaun chipped in with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Essex down by 10 at halftime, mounted a comeback in the second half that was halted by the visitors stifling defense. The home team would shoot lights out in the 3rd quarter and 50% for the game, but were unable to stop their opponents who scored 24 points and 17 points respectively in the second half.

Kayley Lynch would also chip in with 14 points and 9 rebounds, while Natalie Fonseca would score 10 points.

Essex now falls to 4-12 on the season and travels to NJCAA powerhouse Harcum College on Tues. Feb. 4th for a 5pm tipoff.
