Bio

Coach Berry brings a wealth of experience to Essex, with a coaching career spanning high school and collegiate levels. His coaching journey began at Clemson University, where he assisted with sprints, hurdles, jumps, and relays, mentoring 14 All-Americans over three years.

Berry then led Elizabeth High School in New Jersey as Head Coach for cross country, indoor and outdoor track & field, achieving:

  • 3 New Jersey State Championships
  • 7 Union County Coach of the Year honors

He returned to Division I collegiate coaching at the University of Akron, guiding:

  • 22 NCAA Regional qualifiers
  • 11 All-Americans

Berry's next stop was Virginia Tech, where he oversaw:

  • 21 NCAA Regional qualifiers
  • 6 All-Americans

In 2007, Berry became the head cross country and track & field coach at Central High School in Newark, leading the teams to:

  • 12 Essex County First Team All-County honors
  • 6 State Championships

As an athlete, Berry excelled in sprints and hurdles at the University of Alabama and University of Virginia, earning:

  • 11 All-SEC honors
  • 7 All-ACC honors
  • 9-time All-American

He also qualified twice for Olympic Trials in the 400-meter hurdles and 110-meter hurdles with Nike International.
